cme-chirurgie

Web-based education of trauma surgery for graduate and postgraduate education as well as professional training

The surgical knowledge-portal www.cme-chirurgie.de – www.cme-surgery.com - forms the environment for the management of contents. The contents are presented to each particular study group adapted to their specific needs. The knowledge-portal provides manifold options of web-based teaching as far as mapping of complete course curricula. In addition the portal offers its users many different means of communications, such as chat rooms, virtual classrooms, open and limited forums as well as further possibilities to exchange ideas with other learners.

Some of the learning modules of cme-chirurgie are:

  • Comprehensive online-textbooks (WBTs)
  • Problem-oriented case-studies (POL)
  • Examination questions
  • Video lectures and visual presentations

Professional training for physicians

Emphasis here lies on establishing web-based professional training for physicians and improving its quality by means of combining in-class learning and online-learning in terms of blended learning. Interested surgeons can learn more about relevant injuries in 15 high-quatity multimedia online-courses.

Student education

The project-group cme-chirurgie is developing a POL-course consisting of 30 trauma cases that will be made available to all German students of medicine.

Students can study on typical injuries within the scope of lectures (guided by lecturers) as well as individually in the context of problem-oriented learning (POL).

Thus students can acquire medical competence in diagnostics and therapy. Moreover the portal´s means of communication can be utilised for cooperative learning.

Examinations

Students as well as physicians in professional training can, depending on their individual goals, prepare for different examination scenarios. For this purpose we not only provide a catalogue of more than 2000 online-questions but also facilitate options for generating additional questions.

Long-term goal

We intend to broaden the scope of contents to other fields of surgery as well. Possible partners are single institutions as well as networks of instititutions that, as centres of excellences (CoEs), are willing to provide current surgical teaching content via the surgical knowledge-portal for all physicians.
